The longest bridge in the world was opened in China in October
2018. The 55-kilometer long bridge crosses the Pearl River Delta and connects Hong Kong with Macao
and Zhuhai. It is called the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge. It took more than eight years
to build. The completed bridge system includes two man-made islands, an undersea tunnel, and three
linking bridges.
It takes a long time to cross the bridge, so engineers wanted to make it
interesting for drivers. Straight lines can be boring, so the bridge isn’t straight; it curves
like a snake. The towers above the bridge have been designed in different ways; for example, some are
shaped like dolphins. People wanted to protect the dolphins that live in the ocean near the new
bridge, so while they were building the bridge, engineers tried not to damage the marine environment.
The weather around Hong Kong can be very windy, so the engineers designed the bridge so that
it’s very strong.

Diwali Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the most popular
festivals in India. It started centuries ago, and it’s now celebrated in many different
countries, including Singapore, Mauritius, Malaysia, Australia, and even the US. It takes place in
October or November and it lasts for five days. During Diwali, people light lamps and candles and put
them around their houses and around their towns and villages. There are also firework displays,
parties, and other celebrations.
During Diwali, people visit friends and family and give each
other candy and gifts. To prepare for Diwali, people clean their homes and buy new clothes. They also
decorate the floors of their houses with rangoli—colorful decorations made from colored
flour, rice, or chalk. Rangoli are drawn on the floor by the door of the house to bring good
luck.
